How to Bake a Professional-Looking Cake Right in Your Own Kitchen
A professional-looking cake made at home might seem difficult, but it may be easier than you think! You can create the look of an expensive cake at home using only a few unsuspecting items and of course, a cake.
Items You’ll Need
To get started with your “oh-so-glamorous” cake you will need the following items:
- Chilled cake
- Buttercream icing
- Icing spatula
- Buttercream smoother or scraper
- Turn table
- Toppings (optional)
First Things First
The first thing you’ll want to do is bake your cake. Make sure the cake is cooked all the way through, cooled, and chilled before moving on to the next step.
Carefully place the cake on the turn table. If your cake has layers you will want to take your spatula and add an even coating of buttercream icing between each layer as you go.
Take your time on this step to ensure that the cake doesn’t break, and that the layers of the cake (if it has any) are laying evenly and properly as this will make a difference in the overall visual outcome.
Next, take your spatula and smooth the cake over with buttercream frosting. Make sure to do this carefully, without pushing the cake off the turn table. It may even be helpful to use a dampened washcloth place mat on top of the turn table, yet underneath the cake, so that the cake isn’t sliding around as you are icing it.
To finish up, you will take your buttercream smoother scraper and scrape the edges of the cake to create that smooth, professional, yummy-looking finish we all know and love. Once you have finished scraping, lay your scraper to the side and lay on those toppings! Get creative and have fun. You can even use a piping bag or icing tip to for even more professional flair.
How’s that for ease?
