Floodlights are one of the most versatile lighting options for home and commercial properties. With different sizes of lights, various lumens and by strategically positioning the lights it is possible to create accent lighting in landscaping, to brighten up entrances and doors and to create a brighter, safer area in the front or back of a home.
Understanding what you want the LED floodlight to accomplish is the first step. Ask yourself why you want additional light in a particular area. Is it to increase visibility around a doorway or walkway or do you want added security? Perhaps you want to add lighting in a landscaped area to create spectacular effects without any need for visibility on the ground. You may also want to highlight features of the home that give a dramatic look to the exterior of the house to boost curb appeal during the evening hours.
Adding Light for Security
An LED floodlight that is mounted overhead and has the light directed down provides a circular pool of light that can be very bright and focused. This is a great idea over a side door or a back door as it provides both visibility and security.
For larger areas, such as a garage door, consider using two or more LED floodlight fixtures on either side of the door or even three across the top of the doors with larger garages.
The floodlight fixtures can be angled to provide complete coverage over even a large area. By pairing these floodlights with photocells or with automatic timers, you can add that bright light even if no one is home.
Accent Lighting
For accent lighting in landscaping or against a wall, outdoor feature or even the home, use uplighting. This will allow the beam of the floodlight to project up, creating unique and interesting shadows while also adding to ambient light in the area.
Different sizes of floodlights can be used to create a smaller or larger beam when directed either up or down. Consider the size of the area you want to light before making a final choice in outdoor floodlight fixtures.
