The Use of Sludge Dewatering Equipment

The process called waste water sludge dewatering reduces the amount of water that needs to transported for to disposal to plants or landfills. It minimizes the volume of liquid in waste and has the potential of saving companies a lot of in waste disposal costs.

Dewatering itself separates the solids from the liquid. When a business or residential home uses a septic tank, that take will need to be drained or emptied from time to time. The sewage and sludge that develops in these tanks is removed, but the process of removing the water from this sludge is carried out with the use of dewatering equipment. It is where the biosolids are separated from the water.

Dewatering Process
A benefit of this dewatering process is that disposal costs can be significantly lowered due to the subsequent lower weight of the sludge. After the water has been removed with dewatering equipment, the sludge is then removed and taken to landfills.

Leftovers
The solid compounds that remain after the dewatering process are called biosolids. These solids are made up of water combined with organic materials such as potassium, copper, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, molybdenum, boron and manganese.

After these biosolids are dewatered and filtered sometimes they can be used as fertilizers as well as for applications involving forestry, the rehabilitation of lands and agricultural products.

Professional Dewatering
The process of dewatering is often done by a professional company that is contracted to do this specific work. The work may be done by collecting the sludge and moving it to a dewatering equipment location, or it may also be performed onsite through mobile units sent by the company.

A company that provides all of its dewatering services in one location can provide a cost benefit to customers. Some of these companies will operate the equipment necessary to empty septic tanks as well as the dewatering systems. Such an in-house dewatering service provides convenience for the customer and helps the dewatering company provide efficient service at a reasonable cost.

Prior to hiring a dewatering company, be sure to review the services it offers and verify past references for previous work done.
